IOPF — Official Rules of the International Online Power Federation1. General Provisions1.1. IOPF is an international online strength sport federation.
1.2. All competitions are held remotely with mandatory video submission.
1.3. Athletes from all countries may participate.
1.4. Unified technical rules, weight classes, and age categories apply to every event.
2. Disciplines2.1. Squat.
2.2. Bench Press.
2.3. Deadlift (conventional or sumo).
2.4. Online Powerlifting Triathlon (total of three lifts).
2.5. Special formats:
- One Shot Deadlift,
- Max Reps,
- One Video Challenge (entire performance in one take).
3. Athlete Categories3.1. Weight ClassesMen:60, 75, 90, 105, 120, 140, 140+ kg
Women:50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 90+ kg
3.2. Age Groups- Juniors (under 18)
- Open (18–39)
- Masters I (40–49)
- Masters II (50+)
Athletes select their category upon registration.
4. Equipment4.1. SquatRequired Equipment:- T-shirt with round neck; sleeves must not cover the elbows.
- Singlet. The knee must remain fully visible.
- Footwear (trainers, weightlifting shoes, etc.).
Allowed Equipment:- Knee sleeves or knee wraps (athlete’s choice).
- Elbow sleeves.
- Wrist wraps.
- T-shirts with silicone grip on the back.
Prohibited:- Squat suits or similar supportive gear.
4.2. Bench PressRequired Equipment:- T-shirt with round neck; sleeves must not cover the elbows.
- Singlet. The knee must remain visible.
- Footwear.
Allowed Equipment:- Elbow sleeves.
- Wrist wraps.
- Silicone-backed T-shirts.
Prohibited:- Bench shirts or any supportive bench press shirts.
4.3. DeadliftRequired Equipment:- Singlet with knees visible.
- Footwear.
Allowed Equipment:- Elbow sleeves.
- Wrist wraps.
Special Notes:- Any equipment not listed must be approved individually by the federation.
- Adaptive equipment for athletes with disabilities is permitted with prior approval.
5. Equipment Standards (Bars)Olympic-standard or specialized powerlifting bars are allowed.
5.1. Squat:- Maximum bar diameter: 30 mm
- Bar weight: 25 kg
5.2. Bench Press:- Maximum bar diameter: 29 mm
- Bar weight: 20 kg
5.3. Deadlift:- Minimum bar thickness: 27 mm
- Bar weight: 20 kg
Plates may be any standard type; weight must be confirmed by live weighing.
6. Attempts (Online Format)6.1. Athletes may perform
unlimited attempts during preparation.
6.2. Only
one submitted attempt per lift will be judged and counted.
6.3. Once submitted, the attempt cannot be replaced after the deadline.
6.4. Any form of editing, cutting, or altering the video is strictly prohibited.
7. Judging7.1. Each attempt is evaluated by three certified IOPF judges.
7.2. Decision system:
- White light — good lift,
- Red light — no lift (two red lights = failure).
- 7.3. Judges must indicate the reason for a no-lift decision.
- 7.4. Appeals are allowed.
8. Technical Rules8.1. Squat- Hip crease must descend below the top of the knee.
- The movement must be controlled, without double-dipping.
- Contact with the rack is prohibited.
- Full return to upright standing is required.
8.2. Bench Press- Shoulders and glutes must stay in contact with the bench.
- A clear pause on the chest is required.
- Full lockout must be shown.
- Partial foot contact with the floor is allowed (on toes, inside or outside foot edge).
- Excessive heaving or bar movement prior to lockout is prohibited.
8.3. Deadlift- The lift must be continuous.
- Hitching is prohibited.
- At the top: knees fully extended, shoulders back.
- The bar must be lowered under control.
9. Video RequirementsMandatory conditions:- Horizontal orientation only.
- One continuous, unedited take.
- Fixed camera position during the attempt.
- Athlete, barbell, depth/lockout must be clearly visible.
- Minimum resolution: 1080p.
- Audio required.
Information included on screen or via caption:- Athlete’s name
- Category
- Weight of the barbell
- Attempt number
- Date
- Country (optional)
Live Weighing of Equipment:- Plates shown close-up.
- Bar shown with visible markings.
- Weighing may occur before or after the attempt.
10. Athlete Weigh-In10.1. Weigh-in may be performed
before or after the attempt.
10.2. The video must show: empty scale, weighing process, athlete’s face, and final number.
10.3. Allowed attire: underwear or standard competition briefs.
11. DisqualificationDisqualification occurs if the athlete:
- manipulates or edits video footage,
- uses prohibited equipment,
- provides incorrect barbell weight,
- behaves disrespectfully toward judges or athletes,
- violates anti-doping rules.
12. Results and Ranking13.1. Only the best valid attempt counts.
13.2. In triathlon: total of three best attempts.
13.3. Tie-breakers:
- lower bodyweight,
- earlier successful attempt.
- 13.4. Team scoring is based on assigned points.
13. Appeals14.1. Appeals must be submitted within 24 hours after results are published.
14.2. All appeals are reviewed by the IOPF commission.
14.3. Commission decisions are final.
14. Submission of Materials15.1. All videos must be uploaded through the IOPF athlete portal or event platform.
15.2. Submissions after the deadline will not be accepted.
15.3. The system automatically confirms a received attempt.
15. Federation RightsThe federation reserves the right to:
- update the rules,
- use athlete media with their permission,
- conduct special events and online challenges.
16. Code of EthicsAthletes must:
- respect fellow competitors,
- follow technical rules,
- uphold fair play,
- maintain sportsmanship and proper conduct.
17. Athlete AgreementBy registering, the athlete confirms:
- acceptance of IOPF rules,
- permission for data and media processing,
- willingness to comply with anti-doping procedures.
